Pet Shop Boys unembellished |
_ It is often said that although the hits are the face of any band, the B-side tracks (the term coming from the days of two-side vinyl single records) are their "worst"--the minimum of what they would allow to go out there with their name on it. Considering this, the Pet Shop Boys are not bad at all. Thirty such B-side tracks-- in two CDs of fifteen each, in a thin fancy case for the UK Edition--and as always, written by the duo themselves. Playing them feels like sitting in a closed club or concert hall while Chris and Neil are practicing for a performance, or simply having a jam session. Rather fun! The booklet contains, not lyrics, but excerpts from their brain-storming session, in choosing which songs to put into this album. Interesting reading at times, reflecting their trivia-filled minds, tongue-in-cheek frivolity and typical Brit sense of humour. A most delightful album. _ |
